Partials and bridges are alternatives to dental implants for replacing missing teeth. Dr. Macaulay may recommend a bridge or partial dentures to restore your smile.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge works to connect two teeth that share a missing space. It is usually made of two or more crowns that are fused together and attached to the adjacent teeth. Bridges can be a very affordable way to replace missing teeth without extensive surgery.
Bridges Procedure
Bridges are typically placed in three visits.
First visit - Teeth on either side of the space are prepared for the bridge, and tooth structure will be removed to accommodate the anchor portions. An impression is made to create a custom bridge. You will wear a temporary appliance until the permanent bridge arrives within a few weeks.
Second visit - Dr. Macaulay will check the health of the teeth and gums and possibly try in the metal framework of the bridge to ensure proper fit.
Third visit – The permanent bridge will be cemented in place and adjusted for comfort if necessary.
Partial Dentures
Removable partial dentures are another option for replacing missing teeth in adults. They can be made out of metal fused with resin, lightweight plastic material, or all resin.
Partial Dentures Procedure
These are placed in two or more visits and may require adjustments.
First visit - We take impressions of the upper and lower arches and stone models are made for the dental lab.
Second visit - A few weeks later, you will return to try in and take home your custom made partial denture. We will make adjustments as needed.
